Which EM 385-1-1 edition governs your contract?
USACE EM 385-1-1 is contract-specific and date-specific: the edition that governs your work is the one in effect on the date of solicitation, and an existing contract keeps the edition it was solicited under until completion. Enter a solicitation date and this check tells you which edition applies, what changed to the current edition, and which USACE ENG Forms are involved. It is a dates-and-records check. It makes no statement about whether any hazard is adequately controlled.
EM 385-1-1 and the ENG Forms it cites are published free by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. This is an independent service, not affiliated with USACE, the Department of Defense or any government agency. The free check tells you the governing edition; the Filing Desk adds the full currency report. Nothing here is a safety determination.
The government sources behind this check are re-checked on a schedule; last checked 2026-11-02 (5 of 5 sources verified).
USACE’s own obvious download link served the superseded manual
The current edition is EM 385-1-1, 15 March 2024. It supersedes the
30 November 2014 edition. Two separate facts about the canonical Engineer
Manuals link at https://www.publications.usace.army.mil/Portals/76/Publications/EngineerManuals/EM_385-1-1.pdf: the content there has not changed since
5 September 2015 (Internet Archive digest
L54BSTOVQPS6HRASSMSJKJU3NTDIMWCI, identical from 2015-09-05 through 2026-09-21), and that
content is the 30 November 2014 edition, which the 15 March 2024 edition
superseded. So for roughly two and a half years USACE’s obvious Engineer Manuals link
has handed out a retired manual. The current edition lives at a different path:
https://www.publications.usace.army.mil/Portals/76/EM%20385-1-1%20_EFFECTIVE%2015%20March%202024.pdf. If you downloaded “the” EM 385-1-1
from the obvious link and got a 2014 manual, you are not alone, and it changes which
requirements you cite.
Verified against the USACE manual text and the Internet Archive CDX record. USACE returns a block (HTTP 403) to automated fetchers, so the evidence is the archive digest above.
This is a dates-and-records check, not a safety or legal determination, and it says nothing about whether any hazard is adequately controlled. EM 385-1-1 and the ENG Forms are published free by USACE; the charge for the Filing Desk is for the check, the saved record and the currency watch, not for the government documents. Not affiliated with USACE, the Department of Defense or any government agency.
